Ron paradis, the president of the of the Vancouver Metis Citizens Society announced that a Proclamation has
been issued by the District of Sechelt proclaiming November 16-22,2014 as Metis Cultural Awareness Week
in Sechelt. Mayor John Henderson .made the Proclamation at the November 5,2014 Council Meeting of the
District of Sechelt.
Metis historians George and Terry Goulet of Sechelt gave a talk on Louis Riel and Metis history to the
Council Meeting. president Paradis, a resident of Sechelt, provided information on the VMCS to the meeting
and invited Metis and friends of the Metis to a gathering on Sunday November 16,2014 in recognition of the
contibutions of Louis Riel to the Metis people. This VMCS event will be held from 1:00-4:00pm at Mission
Point House on Sunshine Coast BC Highway 101 at Davis Bay (on the Beach side)’
At the Council Meeting, the VMCS presented the District of Sechelt a copy of the book The Metis in British Columbia
Columbia: from Fur Trade Outposts to Colony written by George and Terry Goulet.
